UNITED FORMULA FORD SET TO RACE ONTO TRACKS IN 2022!
- FIVE CLASS STRUCTURE
- OVERALL SEASON CHAMPION TO COME FROM ANY COMPETING CLASS
- NATIONAL TOUR
- TWO RACE, SINGLE DAY EVENT FORMAT
- CHAMPION OF BRANDS TO RUN WITHIN UNITED FORMULA FORD
- FORMULA FORD'S HISTORY TO BE CELEBRATED AT EVERY RACE
25th November 2021, Brands Hatch: James Beckett Motorsport and MotorSport Vision Racing (MSVR) will launch United Formula Ford for the 2022 UK racing season. United Formula Ford has been created to provide a UK tour for all ages of Formula Ford 1600 car - a category that has been entertaining at tracks since 1967, and brings together both the Heritage Formula Ford Championship and the ever popular, Champion of Brands.
United Formula Ford will run a five-class structure for competing cars, which will cover the entire history of Formula Ford 1600. All classes will score the same total of points in each race, allowing the end of season overall champion to come from within any of the competing age group of cars. This will guarantee any racer on track to they will be in a position to fight for the title and the opportunity to be crowned the United Formula Ford champion! And to reward victory, the overall race winner will be handed two extra points!
Two races will take place at each United Formula Ford event, with race action taking place on a single day. This move is designed to help keep a cap on ever growing costs, and allow professional, or amateur, teams and drivers the opportunity to compete on a near level playing field.
United Formula Ford's five-class structure will be afforded strong individual brand identities, with class champions declared at season's end. Historic (Pre '72), Classic (Pre '82), Heritage (Pre '93), Regional (Pre '99) and Star (Post '98) will form the grid, with full race podiums held at each event, adding to United Formula Ford's fresh approach to Formula Ford competition.
Good news for regular competitors in the Champion of Brands, a series that returned to tracks under the guidance of James Beckett Motorsport and MSVR in 2010, is that CoB will become an integral part of United Formula Ford and see CoB racers competing within the United Formula Ford championship. As a bonus, the Champion of Brands will also have its own points table within United Formula Ford, and after all the Brands Hatch races, a standalone champion will be rewarded with the Champion of Brands trophy at an end of season prize giving.
James Beckett, United Formula Ford Co-ordinator, says, "Everyone knows how passionate I am about Formula Ford 1600, and I have been working on this new concept with colleagues from MSVR since the start of the 2021 season. United Formula Ford has been designed to bring the entire Formula Ford community together in a single championship that will celebrate the full history of Formula Ford 1600 at every event.
"Every Formula Ford 1600 car is eligible to participate, and our five class structure will make it possible for any competitor to score championship points in their class and fight to become the overall United Formula Ford champion. United Formula Ford's UK tour visits many of our finest tracks, and offers all Formula Ford racers something new and exciting."
Joe East, MSVR Competitions Manager, says, "We are delighted to develop our long-standing relationship with James Beckett Motorsport with the creation of United Formula Ford. James has identified a gaping hole in the Formula Ford landscape and we are keen to build a strong championship for all of these iconic racing cars"
