MotorSport Vision Racing (MSVR) is delighted to announce the arrival of an all-new, single-make championship arriving at UK circuits in 2023. Miata Trophy is the latest addition to MSV Trackdays’ impressive racing portfolio, which boasts the likes of Trackday Trophy, Trackday Championship and EnduroKA.
Derived from the chassis code of the vehicles, the championship will feature two classes of Mazda MX-5s; NA Class (for Mk1 chassis) and NC Class (for Mk 3 and 3.5 chassis). A dynamic points structure has been designed to encourage competition and allow the overall Miata Trophy champion to come from either of the two classes.
Miata Trophy will include an innovative qualifying format, where the top ten fastest qualifiers will take on ‘SuperPole’ – a winner-takes-all shootout for the front of the grid. Competitors will then vie for victory across two sprint races, providing the perfect platform for plenty of thrilling on-track action. The starting grid for race two will be determined by the results of race one. All action will take place on a single day, to reduce the costs for competitors and ensure that Miata Trophy continues in the same competitively-priced manner as the existing MSV Trackdays racing portfolio.
An impressive provisional calendar has been comprised, with Miata Trophy set to visit some of the finest circuits the UK has to offer – including the prestigious Brands Hatch Grand Prix and stunning Oulton Park.
Stuart Garland, Miata Trophy Championship Coordinator commented: ‘The creation of Miata Trophy has stemmed from strong demand within our own MSVT portfolio of series, which has seen an ever-increasing number of Mazda MX-5s joining. This new championship facilitates competition between both Mk1 and Mk3 MX-5s, on a single grid, with both classes having the opportunity to take the overall championship title. The pricing structure and technical regulations have all been designed with the driver in mind, and with a view to making this championship as accessible as possible for all who want to compete.’
Joe East, MSVR Competitions Manager added: ‘MSVR is extremely pleased to continue working alongside MSV Trackdays in bringing fresh, affordable motorsport to the UK. Our mutual focus on excellent driving standards and value for money will offer a competitive, yet fun and friendly, environment for Mazda MX5s across the UK. ’
