It is with great pleasure that the Maximumgroup.net VAG Trophy can officially confirm that Rob Cox has won the Driver Shootout held at Donington Park on the 8th February 2016.
Throughout the 2015 season, Maximum Motorsport were offering a prize to the competitors who finished 1st, 2nd and 3rd in both class A and class B. The prize was a one-day shootout that would be assessed by a professional driver with the exclusive prize of a fully funded weekend in the 2016 Milltek Sport Volkswagen Racing Cup. Cox was invited to take part in the shoot out as Class A 2nd place finisher, Paul Taylor, was unable to attend the event so the place was offered to the next finishing position.
A very wet Donington Park played host to the event where the participating drivers met in excitement and anticipation for the day’s proceedings before meeting their assessors for the day. The judging panel for the day consisted of Phil House, Stewart Lines, Nicki Lines and Karl Bowdrey.
Each driver got equal time in the Maximum Motorsport Volkswagen Scirocco with and without the professional driver, forcing them to make their own decisions while challenging their mental and physical abilities.
Each driver was interviewed as part of the process in front of the camera and put on the spot with both technical and racing questions.
Series Press Officer, Karl Bowdrey said “The talent that was displayed over the day was incredibly high. Everyone demonstrated their technical abilities as well as their off-track understanding of motorsport media. The day was designed to be challenging on and off track.”

Stewart Lines, Maximum Motorsport owner, said “The VAG Trophy is a stepping stone for some drivers who are looking to progress. We are thrilled to be able to offer this opportunity to Rob, and wish them all the best in their future career”
Cox said afterwards, “I'm in disbelief, I can't wait to get behind the wheel in such a competitive championship as the Volkswagen Cup. The whole competition has been an amazing surprise; I must say a huge thank you to all involved in arranging it. I hope to do everyone proud in the races!”
