Peter Li Zhi Cong will become the third Carlin driver to try his
hand at F3 Cup as he joins the field at Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium
this weekend (27-29 June) for rounds seven and eight of the 2014
He follows in the footsteps of Antonio Felix Da Costa and Carlos
Sainz Jnr, who both entered F3 Cup to gain eligibility for the
Macau Grand Prix last season. Carlin has an unbeaten record in the
championship; Da Costa won twice at Snetterton in 2012 and Sainz
Jnr beat team-mate Felix Da Costa twice 12 months later.
Li Zhi Cong, the 2013 GT Asia Series champion, will be joining
Struan Moore in the Invitational Class driving the Carlin-prepared,
Volkswagen-powered Dallara F308 he fields in British Formula 3.
The Chinese racer currently lies seventh in the British F3
standings following last weekend's races at Snetterton, coming away
from the weekend with a brace of fifth-place finishes. His best
result of the year came at Silverstone in May where he collected a
Spa is the next stop on the British F3 calendar, and Li Zhi Cong
believes this weekend will help him gain invaluable experience
ahead of his return to Spa in one month's time.
He said: "I am looking forward to my first experience in F3 Cup.
It is good to do this round as it will give me some really great
experience outside of the British championship which I am competing
in full time. There's so much to learn in British F3 but I'm
learning race by race and I know that this will be a great event
all around and a fantastic opportunity to put some valuable mileage
on a great circuit."
