Now a staple of the MSVR calendar, the ever-popular Vee Festival
and Victor Meldrew Trophy return this Sunday to the Brands Hatch
Indy circuit. Once again, the final race of the MSVT Team Trophy
season completes the line-up.
Five-time Vee Festival champion Sam Olivera has opted not to
defend his crown this year, blowing the title race wide open. A
healthy grid is expected of the budget single seaters, which are
built largely from Volkswagen Beetles.
Ben Miloudi is expected to be right in the mix, so too are Paul
Taylor and Tim Probert. The Irish trio of Adam MacCauley, Kevin
Grogan and Jimmy Furlong will be looking take some silverware back
across the Irish Sea with them, and their chances look just as
Sunday marks the seventh edition of the fun-but-fierce Victor
Meldrew Trophy, the handicap season-ending saloon race. Everything
from age to length of marriage comes into the equation to decide
the winner, and there are two race wins to fight for in there
Staggered starts and laps in hand even up proceedings, meaning
any one of the many competitors can claim the coveted crown of
Victor Meldrew Trophy champion. James Hebditch took the title last
year, and with him sitting out this weekend we're guaranteed a new
The MSVT Team Trophy begins the day's action though with their
last qualifying session of the year ahead of their hour-long race
at 2pm. There are plenty of potential race winners expected to be
on the grid, but Martin Schofield and Steve Smee could be the ones
to beat. The Integra runners have won twice already this year, but
the likes of Anthony Sidney-Woollett, James Reed and Richard
Preece, and Phil Stratton-Lake will provide stern tests.
Tickets for Sunday cost £13 on the gate with free
admission for children aged 12 years and under.
