04/03/13 - Race fans will witness America's most famous
motorsport first hand at Brands Hatch this summer with
demonstration runs by actual cars from NASCAR's Sprint Cup and
Nationwide Series at the American SpeedFest on 9 June.
While the popular Euro Racecar NASCAR Touring Series will
headline the race schedule at the American themed event, two cars
familiar with the super speedways of Daytona and Talladega will
also show off their thundering V8 power around the 1.2 mile Indy
A Chevrolet Impala which competed in the 2009 Sprint Cup season,
and the #9 Nationwide Series Dodge Charger of 14-time Sprint Cup
race winner Kasey Kahne will wow spectators by completing several
tyre smoking, engine roaring, high octane laps on Sunday 9
The Impala, owned by Mick Strafford, is an ex-Army liveried
machine which reached speeds well in excess of 200mph when it raced
on the super speedway ovals in America during its competitive
career. With NASCAR using the new Generation Six cars, the V8
monster has found a home in England and now sports the iconic
colours of multiple Sprint Cup champion Jeff Gordon.
While the ex-Kasey Kahne Dodge Charger is lighter and less
powerful than the Sprint Cup model, Mick Tester's machine boasts an
impressive history. The car was constructed for the 2005 season and
it made its last race start in 2010, when it recorded a fifth place
finish at Talladega. The car still has it's scrutineering stickers
from NASCAR officials on the car from that event.
NASCAR demonstrations in Europe are rare occasions so make sure
you visit the American SpeedFest to experience the thrill of
America's premier motorsport series.
