28/01/13 - Kevin Riley is the latest driver to sign up for the
2013 GT Cup Championship 2013 which will take place over seven
weekends with 19 races.
Kevin, from Nottingham, will contest the Championship in his
Mosler MT900GT in which he competed last year finishing second in
his group and fourth in the overall championship. Previously Kevin
has finished third in the Mosler Challenge class of the Dutch
Supercar Challenge and third in the GT2 class of the British GT
Kevin Riley explains why he's returning to the GT Cup
Championship he said: "The format is ideal for me and other GT
drivers. Nobody can drive sensibly for more than an hour so the
race lengths are good. For longer races you need other drivers and
to share the cost and share the risk but most people want to buy a
car and race it.
"I raced in British GT where the costs were horrendous and GT
Cup provides the same circuits, TV and racing against the same
types of car for an hour or less. The best part of the weekend is
the first corner of the race and you get that three times. Marc
[Haynes] has responded well to the views of the drivers and we have
a championship based on popularity, drivers opinions and drivers
needs. We're also made to feel so welcome. The hospitality is so
good along with the atmosphere it provides."
The GT Cup Championship offers a fresh and unique approach to GT
racing with plenty of track time for racing drivers to enjoy their
GT Supercars in a friendly, professionally organised, but
competitive, multi marque, premium sprint race championship. 19
races over 7 weekends are scheduled for the 2013 GT Cup
Championship season. The first race takes place at Donington Park
on 27th April .
