13/09/2012 - The newly formed Radical SR1 Cup championship will
showcase its new low cost sportscar at the MSVR GP
Weekend on 15/16 September at the famous Brands Hatch Grand Prix
The Radical SR1 Cup, set to hit the UK's premier circuits in
2013, is a new championship designed for aspiring sportscar
drivers. The championship will lead racers through the process of
getting on the grid, with a detailed programme of training and
technical tuition. This Saturday the new bespoke SR1 Cup Car
will break cover when it completes a handful of demonstration
laps of the 2.3 mile circuit.
The SR1 is a two-seater sportscar powered by a 1340cc RPE-Suzuki
engine modified to suit both racers in the early stages of their
development and be extremely reliable with very low running costs.
It weighs just 480kg, and with a 185bhp it has a power-to-weight
ratio that would shame most supercars.
Roger Green, Radical Marketing Manager said: "We are really
looking forward to demonstrating the Radical SR1 car in front of
the crowds at Brands Hatch. Since the SR1 Cup launch four weeks ago
we have been overwhelmed by the interest with 14 seats filled
already and we have had plenty more interest for other drivers
The SR1 Cup will begin with the race licence procedure, followed
by two instructor-assisted trackdays, and a competitive Bedford
Autodrome 'How Fast' event. It all culminates with eight races at
some of the best circuits in the UK, all for the incredible price
of just £37,500 - and drivers will get to keep the car.
The process is designed to guide drivers through the entire
process of competing, from signing on to setting up the car to the
race craft itself. The races will be held at Brands Hatch,
Snetterton 300, Oulton Park and Cadwell Park, all run by MSVR. Each
race event takes place at the same meeting as the Radical Clubman's
Cup, and the qualifying session and two races will take place on
the same day.
