MSVR heads to Oulton Park this Saturday (21 July), with
a superb line up of racing from
spectacular supercars, single seaters and terrific tin
The GT Cup Championship, Production BMW Championship, MK2 Golf
GTI Championship, VAG Trophy, Monoposto Championship and the
Project Eight Racing Saloons are set to entertain at the
picturesque Cheshire cicuit, with drivers eager to bank points to
boost their title hopes.
GT Cup Championship
In GT Cup the Ferrari 458 of Derek Johnston leads the
championship after winning all three races at Snetterton last time
out. Joining the grid of BMWs, Ferraris and Porsches for the first
time this season will be the spectacular Audi R8 LMS of Nigel
Mustill. The stunning Mosler of Kevin Riley is set to
return, providing increased competition for the victory
up front along with the ultra fast Chevrons of Jordan and David
Witt. There may even be an appearance of Jim Geddie's McLaren
MP4-12C GT3 machine for the first time this season.
Marangoni Tyres Production BMW Championship
An impressive grid of 33 cars will line up on the grid for two
races with drivers desperate to enhance their title hopes.
Leading the pack heading into rounds 9 and 10 is reigning champion
Mike Tovey after a double victory at the Snetterton 300 circuit
last time out. The Bristol racer holds a 24 point advantage in the
championship standings, but with 30 points awarded for victory his
position at the top is by no means safe.
Fellow Bristol-based driver Matthew Parkes and former Renault
Clio Cup champion Ben Winrow head the chase to reel in Tovey, lying
second and third in the championship respectively. Parkes has been
a regular on the podium this year, while Winrow has managed to get
the better of Tovey on several occasions this season, so expect
these two to be in contention for top honours as they frantically
try to catch Tovey in the championship.
MK2 Golf GTI Championship
Tin top action continues with a front-wheel drive bias in the
Lubricant Consultancy MK2 Golf GTI Championship, and the big news
for this Saturday is that former WTCC and BTCC driver Harry
Vaulkhard will join the grid driving for Jabba Sport. He's sure to
give runaway championship leader Jamie Martin a run for his
money. Martin has proved to be a force to be reckoned with
this season winning all four of the races at Donington Park and
Silverstone respectively. The racing has been frantic up and down
the field so expect plenty of overtaking and excitement around the
2.6 mile circuit.
More than 20 Volkswagen Audi Group cars are set to do battle
which should provide two thrilling races. Class A driver Daniel
Rose is the man to beat boasting a 100 per cent winning start to
the 2012 season with double victories at Donington Park and
Silverstone. Golf driver Paul Taylor and fellow SEAT Leon racer Joe
McMillan have pushed Rose hard in their races and are surely due a
visit to the top step of the podium soon.
Although there are plenty of races of the season remaining, the
chasing pack will be keen not to let Rose run away with the
championship so he will expect a wealth of competition for the win
St Cross Electronics Monoposto Championship
Meanwhile a huge grid of single seaters of all shapes and sizes
characterises the many classes of the St Cross Electronics
Monoposto Championship. In particular the Mono 2000 class has
produced an interesting three way tussle with Robbie Watts, Tony
Bishop and Malcolm Scott in the last few races and is sure to
provide more of the same this Saturday.
Project Eight Racing Saloons
BMW has dominated the Project Eight Racing
Saloons this season winning all eight races of 2012 in the
hands of Mike Dugdale, Robert Sadler and Peter Seldon. Despite the
German manufacturers' dominance a collection of cars from various
marques including Renault, Ford, Rover, Jaguar and Peugeot have all
made an appearance and have challenged for glory.
Class A should provide the outright winner for both races today
and titanic battle between Dugdale and Sadler's BMW M3s is
expected. Southampton racer Dugdale has been the most dominant
driver with five wins this season but Sadler has featured at the
sharp end all season visiting the top step of the podium at Brands
Hatch. Dugdale was the man to beat at the last round recording two
impressive victories at the Snetterton 300
