New to the 2012 British Motorcycle Grand Prix will be a
supporting race open to a wide variety of teams and riders with a
large amount of quality track time in front of the biggest audience
of the year.
The Silverstone 200 will consist of two (World Championship
length) 100 kilometre races around the breathtaking 3.6 miles Grand
Prix circuit shortly after Stoner, Rossi, Lorenzo and co. have
taken their new 1000cc MotoGP bikes to the limits.
Variety will be the spice of the Silverstone 200 with an open
capacity eligibility of 600 to 1200cc machines making this special
race and the highly sought after track time open to teams and
riders competing in British, National or International
Championships at Superbike, Supersport or Superstock 1000
Being outside of the constraints of championship regulations
means essentially its anything goes within the parameters of the
bike capacity limits and the wide open expanses of the Silverstone
GP circuit allows the circuit to be licensed to start 44
The Silverstone 200 races will be preceded by free practice and
all important qualifying on Friday with the first 16 laps 100km
race getting the start signal straight after GP activities on
As in BSB the fastest lap times recorded in leg 1 will set the
grid for leg 2. The second 100km race will set off immediately
after the GP races have been concluded on Sunday.
As the race title implies the overall winner will receive the
inaugural Silverstone 200 Trophy.
Silverstone 200 teams and riders will be exclusively based in
the heritage pit garages and paddock complex between Woodcote and
Copse corners as well as utilising the start/finish line in this
