15/05/2011 - The first major event on the Snetterton 300 circuit
- run by MSVR - on 14/15 May yielded an exciting weekend of racing,
headlined by the British F3 and GT Championships.
Snetterton hosted a trio of British F3 outings, in which
Carlin rookie Kevin Magnussen shone, taking two out of three
victories. The young Dane clinched races one and three in much the
same fashion, starting second on the grid before scything past
pole-sitter and team-mate Felipe Nasr on the outside at Riches on
both occasions. Brazilian Nasr did, however, have the honour of
setting a new outright circuit lap record with his fastest race
three time of 1m39.933s. Fortec's Lucas Foresti took advantage of a
reverse grid pole position to take the spoils in British F3's
second outing, with team-mates Harry Tincknell and Will Buller
completing the podium.
The British GT Championship produced an enthralling
two-hour encounter, in which the United Autosports team scored its
maiden victory on the final lap. The squad's leading Audi R8 in the
hands of Mike Guasch and Matt Bell looked to be out of contention
for overall honours, due to two time penalties for pit stop and
yellow flag infringements. However, the leading CRS Ferrari 458 of
Jim and Glynn Geddie suffered a mechanical failure, which meant it
had to pit on the final lap. United capitalised on this to overtake
CRS in the pit lane - leading only the final lap of the race! Rosso
Verde's Hector Lester and Allan Simonsen secured third after a
storming drive in the second half of the
In the weekend's support series, Scott Malvern clinched a
hat-trick of victories in the MSA Formula Ford Championship of
Great Britain, whilst Steve Chaplin and Aaron Mason shared the
spoils in the Volkswagen Racing Cup.
Autosport journalist Ben Anderson won the opening race of
the Ginetta Challenge, with Sean Huyton taking the chequered flag
in race two.
Snetterton also hosted three races from the Caterham
Superlight R300 Championship, in which Jamie Orton celebrated
victories in both encounters.
