09/06/2011 - BMW driver Adam Sharpe fended off a hard charging
Colin Tester in both races to record his eighth and
ninth wins of the season at Brands Hatch GP.
Sharpe, starting from pole position, was beaten off the line
by Colin Tester, who made the best getaway and he
took the lead, as the bumper 44 car grid entered Paddock Hill Bend.
But the race was neutralised seconds later, as the safety car was
called upon to aid the recovery of five cars beached in the
gravel trap at Paddock Hill Bend.
Just as the safety car pulled into the pit lane to resume the
race, Tester made an error at Clearways on the restart, which
allowed Sharpe to take lead. Tester, rejoined the race in sixth
position after his excursion into the gravel trap.
After inheriting the lead, Sharpe produced a controlled drive to
the chequered flag to continue his impressive run of form. Tester
did well to recover to second position with a sequence of
impressive overtaking moves. Local man Peter Seldon, from
Sevenoaks, claimed the final step of the podium in third.
Race one victor Sharpe was forced to file in behind Tester on
the opening lap, as the Ford Sierra driver leapt off the start
line. Tester and Sharpe moved away from the chasing group and
a titanic battle for the lead followed.
The BMW driver hounded Tester for the opening laps until he
forced his way into the lead, with dive down the inside at Surtees.
Tester regrouped and set about catching and passing Sharpe, but he
was unable to regain the lead.
Tester's race came to a disappointing end as mechanical problems
forced him into the pits on the final lap. The BMWs of Roger
Kneebone and Peter Seldon inherited podium finishes crossing the
line in second and third respectively.
