Martin Donnelly has praised the Snetterton 300 circuit and believes
the newly configured layout provides drivers with more of a
The Irishman, who drove for the Lotus Formula One team in 1990,
returned to race for the famous British manufacturer again, as he
helped guide a factory backed Evora GT4 to victory in the Lotus Cup
UK at the MSVR organised Lotus Festival last weekend.
Thousands of fans flocked to the circuit to witness demonstrations
from iconic Lotus F1 machinery, alongside a superb line up of close
The Norfolk circuit is held in high esteem by Donnelly, a resident
in the county for 26 years, and he was mightily impressed with the
new 2.99-mile layout after competing in his first race at the venue
since its transformation. The newly configured Snetterton 300 venue
was completed in February this year.
Donnelly said: "It was the first time I've raced the Snetterton 300
circuit but I had done several track days on the new track, but
having been based in Norfolk for the last 26 years my opinion was
if it is not broken why try and fix it. However, the proof is in
the pudding and I've driven it in both the dry and the wet and I
have to take my hat off to Mr Palmer, it has been money well
invested and it is definitely a better circuit. I haven't heard
anyone say a bad word about it. It's a long track but it is more
challenging for the drivers.
"It was a good race and a good result for the team Lotus
Motorsport. It was a special occasion for myself as it was my first
official association with the Lotus brand out on track."
After thoroughly enjoying his racing return for Lotus, he hopes to
turn a wheel in anger once again this season.
Donnelly added: "I would like to get back out in the Evora again.
Motor racing is in my blood and if I was asked to go out and
compete again for the factory or Lotus on Track, I would bite their
