11/08/2011 - The GT Cup Championship will welcome a vast array
of spectacular machinery with an expected 29 car grid for latest
rounds at Donington Park this weekend.
The sleek Ferrari 458, powerful Chevrolet Corvette and the
quirky Marcos Mantis will join a host of fresh faces for two
thrilling races at the Leicestershire circuit on Sunday.
Derek Johnston will pilot the 458 this weekend for his 2011
debut in the championship and he will be joined by fellow debutants
Nick & Henry Whale, Keith Webster and Robert Koenig, who will
all be driving Porsche 997's. Xero Competition will field a
Chevrolet Corvette for Mitch Millet and Darryl Wilson will get
behind the wheel of the Marcos Mantis. Brands Hatch GP winner Danny
Winstanley will return to the grid after sitting out the last two
rounds in his TVR Sagaris.
Irishman Andy Ruhan has been the man to beat in 2011 so far, but
his 21 point lead is by no means safe; David Tomlin, driving his
Ferrari 430, reduced the Porsche driver's advantage after a solid
showing at the last round at Brands Hatch. The emergence of Chevron
driver Jordan Witt, who recorded a win at the Kent circuit, could
also become a factor.
The Group 2 and 3 battles are even closer with Sean Winder just
13 points ahead of nearest rival Francis Galashan in Group 2, while
Adam Hayes is only eight clear of Barclay Dougal in Group 3.
