MSVR was the organising club for the DTM's visits to Brands Hatch from 2006-2013, and again when the championship returned after a short break in 2018 and 2019. Sadly the 2020 event has been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The German-based DTM championship will return to Brands Hatch next August (22/23) following a successful 2019. The prestigious touring car series will race on the legendary Grand Prix circuit for the first time, marking it out as a flagship event on the Kent venue's calendar.
DTM is the world's fastest and most technologically advanced tin-top racing series, with high-speed cars based on saloons from BMW, Audi and Mercedes. The innovation and manufacturer involvement in DTM is at a level scarcely seen outside the world of F1.
DTM boasts an outstanding roster of driving talent too, with next year's grid already confirmed to include former Formula One driver Timo Glock and reigning champion Rene Rast. Despite the championship's international flavour, there has always been local interest as well, with Bromley's Gary Paffett a regular driver for Mercedes.
Brands Hatch has previously hosted DTM on the Indy circuit, but has seen switched to the Grand Prix layout which will allow the cars to stretch their legs further. The circuit has changed little since it hosted the last of its 14 World Championship Grands Prix, making it the perfect setting for these cars, whilst the scene is set for some of the fastest lap times since that era.
Gerhard Berger, CEO of DTM's umbrella organisation ITR, said: "Five events in Germany, five abroad - DTM is becoming somewhat more international without neglecting its German roots. With England and Italy, two important markets of the premium car manufacturers Audi, BMW and Mercedes make their comeback on the DTM calendar."
