BBC F1 presenter to make racing debut in Elise Trophy

Jake Humphrey signs up for MSVR-run series this October

BBC Formula One frontman Jake Humphrey will make his racing debut in the MSVR-run Lotus on Track Elise Trophy at the Silverstone 'Supercar Saturday' event on 10 October.

Humphrey, who joined the F1 commentary team this season when coverage moved from ITV to the BBC, is taking part in the project as part of the MSA's Go Motorsport initiative to encourage more people into motorsport.

The 30-year-old passed his ARDS test last month in order to gain his National B racing licence, and he took to the track in a Lotus Elise S1 this week for some initial training ahead of his competitive debut.

Jake will be driving an Elise previously raced by former F1 driver Martin Donnelly, which land speed record holder Andy Green also piloted at the Snetterton Lotus Festival in June. Humphrey has already arranged for fellow F1 presenters David Coulthard and Eddie Jordan to act as his driving coach and team boss respectively.

Footage of Jake's preparation and racing debut will be shown as part of the BBC's Formula One coverage later this season.

As well as three races from the Elise Trophy, MSVR's Supercar Saturday will include action from the GT Cup and the Sports Prototype Endurance Event Driving (SPEED).
