Green prepares for home race

DTM title in sight for British hope

Jamie Green will be targeting the eleventh podium finish of his DTM career when he returns to Brands Hatch on 29/30/31 August to race on home soil, following a spectacular podium finish last time out at the Nurburgring.

Green was forced to gamble on tyre choice before the start of the race, but he persevered and was able to take third place for the Salzgitter/Original-Teile AMG Mercedes team, moving him within four points of championship leader Timo Scheider.

Green said: "I was sitting on the grid and there was rain on my windscreen and I was thinking 'I'm glad I don't have to make the call on what tyres to put on'. I let my engineer make the decision as he was the one with the weather information. The Audis were obviously hoping for rain, and the warm-up lap was the slowest I've driven! I had a good start, passed a few people and had a bit of a battle with Ralf (Schumacher). Even though it was spitting a bit the times were still quick."

Green worked his way up to third through the two pitstops, but in the final stages of the race the rain started to fall heavily. From second place Paul di Resta pitted for wets, but Jamie opted to carry on to the finish on slicks.

"In the end it was so wet I was just sliding about all over the place," added Green. "The team was giving me the gap to the group behind I and I was keeping that steady. It would have been easy to lock-up and go off in those conditions".

On his wet tyres di Resta re-passed Jamie for second but from 13th on the grid Green was happy to have kept up his record of scoring in every race and is now just four points behind series leader Scheider.

Green came close to winning here at Brands Hatch in 2006 and 2007, but circumstances worked against him. This time he's hoping to get a great result and build towards his title challenge.

Green said: "It's not going to be easy as the Audis will be 10kg lighter than us, but I'll be pushing as hard as I can to get a good result."
