McInerney Mosler takes Britcar win

Night fever for Mosler at Brands Hatch

The Mosler GT3 driven by Sean and Michael McInerney held off a spirited challenge by the Aston Martin of Paul Drayson and Jonny Cocker to win the Britcar 'Into the Night' Race at Brands Hatch last Saturday (15 November 2008), while Andrew Beaumont and Henry Taylor took the Class One title.

Just over two seconds separated the leading cars after 90 minutes of racing around the Brands Hatch Indy circuit. Second place was a remarkable achievement for Drayson and Cocker following a heavy accident in testing on Friday, damaging the rear of the car.

Qualifying saw a Mosler one-two with the McInerney car ahead of Beaumont and Taylor, followed by Drayson and Cocker third. The front three maintained this order until they entered the pit-stop phase of the race.

During this period, the Mosler of Beaumont and Taylor suffered the most as they lost two laps to the race leaders, whilst the Aston Martin crew timed their stops to perfection, coming out in second place with just the McInerneys in front.

The Mosler was too strong for the Aston Martin though, gradually pulling away to take the chequered flag by just over two seconds.

Despite the disappointment of losing a chance for the race victory, Beaumont and Taylor played their Joker for the weekend - meaning that they received double points, which was enough for them to win the Class One Championship from the Ferrari F360 of Witt Gamski and Keith Robinson.
