Richard Plant claims commanding victory

Vautier's winning streak comes to an end at Oulton Park

Richard Plant claimed his second FPA win of the season at Oulton Park today (Saturday) after seeing off championship leader Tristan Vautier off the start line.

The Briton got a fantastic start and was able to sweep around the outside of Vautier on the entry to Old Hall Corner for the first time. Plant never looked back and went on to destroy the opposition, eventually winning by nearly eight seconds. "I hope this can help me to push on for the championship," said Plant. "Tristan still has a commanding lead in the standings, but there is a long way to go and I will keep pushing. I also want to dedicate this victory to Henry Surtees. I used to kart with Henry and he was a really top bloke. He will be missed."

Kazim Vasiliauskas made it a hat-rick of second places in today's triple-header after the Lithaunian also got by Vautier on the inside at Cascades on lap eight. "Always finishing second is not too bad," commented Vasiliauskas, "but I want to win again of course."

Vautier's troubles continued as the Frenchman lost fourth gear and was also past by Adam Foster and Ashley Babbra late in the race. Foster held on to take a podium, whilst Babbra scored his best ever FPA result with fourth. "That was better," noted Foster. "It was probably a confidence thing following my accident this morning, and it has taken me a little while to get up to speed. That was definitely more like it and it's good points for the championship."

Vautier did well to hang on to take fifth, as five cars fought behind him in the closing stages. Emma Kimilainen resisted pressure from Paul Rees throughout the race, whilst Rees also had Ash Davies and Jose Alonso Liste immediately behind him. The quarter maintained positions for the full 14 laps, crossing the line a little over two seconds apart. Kimilainen will have been pleased to return to the top six, whilst Ash Davies also deserves a special mention, having had his best day in FPA so far - the Welshman finished inside the top eight in each of the three races.

Julien Gerbi also raced well and made a welcome return to the top ten, whilst Swiss driver Philipp Frommenwiler came from the back to finish eleventh after making a poor start.
