For many years, UK drivers have enjoyed the opportunity to race in Portugal thanks to Portuguese Caterham racing specialists - CRM Motorsport. These ad-hoc invitation races for Caterham race cars have existed since around 2008, and the number of cars racing at Estoril has increased from around 8 UK cars to over 40.
As a result of the success of these events, drivers continued to request an expansion of events to the friendly and relaxed racing atmosphere that appeals to so many.
To extend the invitation back to CRM, and in preparation for 2016, McMillan Motorsport coordinated race events at Silverstone GP, Rockingham and Spa Francorchamps, before heading back to the CRM Portimao and Estoril events.
Towards the end of 2016 drivers expressed their desire for a full calendar of events, and so working alongside MSVR an MSA registered UK series was established - and the Toyo Tires 7 Race Series was born.
Committed to racing on the best circuits the UK has to offer, including a June trip to Spa Francorchamps, the series maintains relaxed and friendly competitive events with the emphasis on enjoyment for drivers and their families.
To supplement the UK series of events, CRM continue to offer invitation races, including Spain & Portugual towards the latter end of the year, giving drivers the opportunity to race at premier circuits in a favourable climate.
The Toyo Tires 7 Race Series allows Caterham racecars that have been built to a specification that has been compliant with the following classes:
- Caterham R300 Class
- Caterham 1600cc Supersport/Sigmax
- Other classes (at the discretion of the organisers, other specifications of Caterham may enter)
