The Mountney SuperSeries for Formula Ford 1600 is a national ranking series for the famous Formula Ford 1600 category that forms part of the MSVR FF1600 portfolio alongside the popular Champion of Brands.
The Mountney SuperSeries offers competitors the chance to race their cars at a number of tracks throughout the season including both the Brands Hatch Indy and Grand Prix Circuits, Snetterton, Kirkistown, Mallory Park and the Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit. In 2016, SuperSeries bacame an officially recognised feeder series to the coveted Mazda Road To Indy Scholarship - a competition that will reward one driver competing in the contest's finals at Laguna Seca in California during December with a prize drive in the USF2000 Championship worth $200,000.
Racers aged under 25 competing in the Mountney SuperSeries have, at each race, the chance to be nominated as the 'Mountney Driver of the Race'. At the season's end, all nominated drivers will proceed to a 'SuperSeries Shootout, a day of schooling and evaluation, from which one driver will emerge victorious and earn the right to travel to the United States as the Mountney SuperSeries representative. As in all motorsport, wins are important, although driving performances will also be taken into account when nominations are being made at the conclusion of each race.
The Mountney SuperSeries is not all about young drivers though, and racers of all ages are encouraged to compete during with their cars. New for 2016 was the introduction of the Formula Ford Heritage class - this catering for Formula Ford 1600 machines manufactured on or before 31.12.1992. The Pre '93 FF1600 era forms the categories heritage, hence the naming of this class. Formula Ford Heritage will appear. as a standalone class, within all Mountney SuperSeries races held at Brands Hatch - the circuit that hosted the world's very first Formula Ford race, and is known as the home of FF1600.
At the end of the season, the SuperSeries 'Driver of the Year' will be presented with the 'Mountney Cunningham Cup', an award carrying the name of Formula Ford legend, Neil Cunningham. The winning driver will carry the number one on their car in 2018.
