New for 2018, the Jack Cavill Heritage Formula Ford series roared away from the starting grid for the first ever time on April 21st at Donington Park.
Heritage Formula Ford has been created for this season by James Beckett Motorsport and MotorSport Vision Racing (MSVR) to cater for Ford Kent-engined FF1600 cars manufactured pre-1993. These cars originate from an era regarded as the halcyon period for the category when drivers such as David Coulthard, Gil de Ferran and Johnny Herbert ruled the roost.
Five race meetings make up the Heritage Formula Ford season, and if action witnessed so far is anything to go by, then this new series is set for a sterling year of competition. As already seen, interest is strong from competitors and the on-track action has attracted positive feedback from racers and spectators alike.
James Beckett comments, "Formula Ford remains a popular category and is now in its 51st year! The pre-'93 era of FF1600 remains the golden period for the category, and Heritage Formula Ford has been created to pay homage to that era. This series will give life and track time to cars which have perhaps become outclassed and are possibly uncompetitive in other championships due to their age."
"Much work has gone into making sure Heritage Formula Ford delivers everything that is required by competitors, but consideration has also been given to spectators attending race meetings. Formula Ford remains one of our sport's enduring categories, and we believe Heritage Formula Ford will flourish this year as we look towards introducing full championship status in the future."
MSVR’s Race Operations Manager David Scott said, “We are very excited to welcome this new series to the MSVR family. We have worked closely with James on both the SuperSeries and the Champion of Brands for many years, and are confident this series will grow quickly with strong grids and close racing”.
