With just four weeks to go, competitors are revving up for the start of the Jack Cavill Heritage Formula Ford series that will roar away from the starting grid for the first ever time on April 21st at Donington Park.
New for the 2018 season, Heritage Formula Ford will see Ford Kent-engined FF1600 cars manufactured pre-1993 compete against each other - an era that is regarded as the halcyon days of the category.
The series, administered in association with James Beckett and James Beckett Motorsport, will visit five race meetings this season and interest is strong from competitors with entries already arriving at the MSVR office for the Donington double-header.
James Beckett commented, "Formula Ford remains a popular category and is now in its 51st year! The pre-'93 era of FF1600 remains the golden period for the category, and Heritage Formula Ford has been created to pay homage to that era. This series will give life and track time to cars that have perhaps become outclassed and and possibly uncompetitive in other championships due to their age."
He added, "Much work has gone into making sure Heritage Formula Ford delivers everything that is required by competitors, while also remembering spectators attending race meetings. Formula Ford remains one of our sport's enduring categories, and we believe Heritage Formula Ford will flourish this year as we look towards introducing full championship status in the future."
MSVR's Assistant Race Operations Manager Simon Gnana-Pragasam said, "We are delighted to develop our long-standing relationship with James Beckett Motorsport this year with Heritage Formula Ford. James has identified a gaping hole in the Formula Ford landscape and we are keen to build a strong series for these iconic racing cars to recreate the excitement of the category's heyday. As a bonus, the revamped Donington Park will provide the perfect backdrop for the series' launch in April."
