2017 MSN Circuit Rally Championship winner Ian Woodhouse took to the track for the first time since his championship win to test the brand new Michelin Pilot Sport R range of Tarmac Competition tyres.
Competing over the weekend of 20th August, Woodhouse took to the Donington Park circuit for the Dukeries Rally on the latest Michelin FIA road legal tread pattern which uses the newest rubbers and construction techniques.
Donington is a circuit familiar to Woodhouse success, after his win there on the MSN Circuit Rally Championship and two wins in two previous rallies, and he led the Rally after stage one.
Ian Woodhouse said: "I was very impressed with the new Michelin FIA type tyre. They heated up within the first few corners and held the tarmac well. I did seven stages on one set of tyres and there is still plenty of rubber left to do another rally, so this is certainly a tyre I would want to use on the MSN Circuit Rally Championship"
The tyre, launched as a direct replacement for the old SA range, is suitable for cars on 7”-8” rims and ideal for stage, historic, touring and single venues; everything that is ideal for competing in the 2018 MSN Circuit Rally Championship.
Tim Hoare, Michelin Motorsport Manager UK & Ireland said, "This tyre has been a long time in development. With the outgoing tyre still regarded as the market leader, it was always going to be a hard act to follow, but this tyre really pushes the benchmark"
With five fastest stage times, only a penalty on stage two stopped Woodhouse from a dominant 44 second victory, yet the tyre afforded him a new level of grip and prevision when compared to the old range.
Tim added: "Ian was a great choice to trial this new tyre as he has shown his pace in winning the championship last year and we've been really pleased with the results that Ian and his team have set today. Even in one of the most powerful Mk2 Escorts on the Stage Rallying circuit it held up well and left plenty for a second day of competitive action"
The new Michelin tyre is available now from the UK importer; Protyre Motorsport 01782 411001
