Champion of Brands

Brands Hatch is the spiritual home of Formula Ford, and so it is entirely appropriate that the track plays host to a single venue series for the iconic Formula Ford 1600 cars.

In association with James Beckett, the well-known FF1600 event mastermind, the Champion of Brands (CoB) returned to racing schedules for the 2010 and 2011 seasons and has quickly established itself as the leading single venue FF1600 series in the country.

2012 promises to be bigger and better for the CoB, with races scheduled to again take place around both the Brands Hatch Indy Circuit and the legendary Grand Prix Circuit. The CoB already boasts a strong feel good factor, and further enhancements for the new season will further allow the series to continue its upward profile, thus strengthening itself further to both competitors and spectators alike.

All Ford Kent-engined Formula Ford 1600 cars are eligible to participate in the CoB, and as a result races offer great opportunities for the owners of all types of FF1600 car to battle wheel-to-wheel against each other around the Brands Hatch track.

The Champion of Brands is a series - not a championship.

Administered by James Beckett Motorsport the winner of each race becomes the crowned 'Champion of Brands'. For the next race, the champion will carry the number 1 on his or her car in an attempt to defend the crown. If successful, the number 1 stays on for another event. If not, the new champion will carry the number 1 next time the series is in action.

The names of all race winners are engraved on the impressive Champion of Brands trophy, which lives in the Kentagon at the Brands Hatch circuit. 2010 saw four races, and four champions - again underlining the competitiveness of the Champion of Brands.

May - Neville Smyth

July - David Grady

August - Jordan Skinner

New for 2011 was the introduction of a new class for FF1600s manufactured during the 1980s. This was a halcyon period in the history of the Champion of Brands, and 'The Kentagon Cup' will offer drivers of this era of car the opportunity to race for trophies within the body of the main Champion of Brands races. Like in 2010, 2011 saw four different champions.
